Enhanced NPC Interactions and Character Customization in Dragon's Dogma 2
Hideki Itsuno, the guiding force behind Dragon's Dogma 2, has provided insights into the advanced NPC system set to feature in the eagerly awaited 2024 game. Itsuno offered a glimpse into how the sequel would build upon the original game’s pawn system, through which players could design customized NPC companions to accompany them on their quests. These pawns would not only join in battles but also aid in completing various side missions.
Itsuno has detailed how the interactions and the game’s universe will gain depth, creating a more believable dynamic. He explained that the technological strides Capcom has taken since the first game now empower the team to fashion richly detailed NPCs that can establish complex relationships with the players and among themselves.
One of the examples shared by Itsuno involves a scenario where the player's actions towards one NPC, such as an act of aggression against one half of a pair, may lead both to react negatively towards the player. Conversely, the kindness shown towards an NPC child could earn the player favor with the child's family.
Itsuno further described a scenario wherein personal bonds formed with allied NPCs could result in unexpected situations, such as them visiting the player's home. Such a visit could lead to altercations should another similarly connected character be present, potentially escalating to a brawl for the player’s attention. Itsuno humorously indicated that part of the reason for creating this system was to allow players to find themselves in a situation where they’d have to intervene between squabbling allies, jokingly suggesting that players might want to steer clear of causing such domestic dramas.
Beyond the behavioral upgrades, Itsuno expressed that the team is aiming to enhance the character creation suite in Dragon's Dogma 2 to take full advantage of the latest hardware capabilities. This upgrade promises the ability to craft even more meticulously detailed player characters and pawns, potentially turning character customization into a highly engrossing aspect of the game in itself.
These revelations showcase a sequel that's striving not only for gameplay improvements but also for immersive storytelling through evolved character interactions and customization.
