From Setbacks to Stardom: Meghan Markle's Journey Through Auditions and Success in Suits
Meghan Markle's journey to stardom took a significant turn with her role in the legal drama series, Suits. Initially, she faced a significant setback with her performance in the 2008 pilot for Good Behavior, a project she worked on alongside Patrick J. Adams. Unfortunately, the pilot was met with poor reviews, leading to its cancellation. It wouldn't be until three years had passed that that both actors would reunite for Suits, which has gained renewed popularity since its debut on Netflix.
The disappointing experience from Good Behavior actually played a crucial role in Markle's audition for Suits. When Adams and Markle joined forces for the screen test, they approached the situation with more composure and familiarity. Reflecting on their earlier experience, Adams noted that they had a much more relaxed dynamic during the chemistry read for Suits compared to their previous project, resulting in a natural connection. It was evident to him that they shared a good rapport, and he felt confident that Markle was destined for the role of Rachel.
According to Adams, it was undeniable that she excelled during the audition, and he was convinced from the outset that she would secure the part. He described the chemistry they had as effortless, especially in contrast to their past experience. His instincts turned out to be accurate, as Suits ran for an impressive 9 seasons, marking a significant contrast to the brief run of Good Behavior.
Despite Adams’ confidence, Markle herself harbored doubts about her audition for Suits. Unlike Adams' optimism, she felt her performance was shaky, admitting that she struggled to remember her lines and became easily distracted. She reflected on her earlier audition for a show called A Legal Mind, expressing her frustration with how it went. Markle recalled telling her agent that she felt she had blown it, emphasizing her disappointment because she genuinely loved the character of Rachel. Fortunately, circumstances changed for her, and the pilot for Suits turned out to be a success. She even kept her $45 black dress from that pivotal audition, a lasting memory of her journey.
Suits continues to be available for streaming on Netflix, allowing a new audience to discover the show and its characters.
