Microsoft to Launch Game Library Streaming for Xbox Cloud Gaming Next Month
The gaming landscape is poised for a significant change as Microsoft prepares to enhance its Xbox Cloud Gaming service. This expansion aims to allow players to stream their own game libraries starting next month, creating new opportunities for Xbox users.
In November, Microsoft is expected to roll out a functionality that allows users to livestream gameplay they already own, even if those titles are not part of the Xbox Game Pass lineup. This announcement comes from various sources who have insights into Microsoft's upcoming developments, highlighting a project known as "Project Lapland," which seeks to enhance the Game Pass Ultimate experience.
Beginning next month, participants in the Xbox Insider program will have the chance to test this new capability. This upgrade is designed to enable the servers of Xbox Cloud Gaming to aid the streaming of a vast array of games, expanding the options available to gamers significantly.
After completing the testing phase, Microsoft plans to roll out the streaming feature to a broader audience of Xbox users. Initially, the aim was for game library streaming to be part of the service as early as 2020, with a commitment to support it the following year. Unfortunately, the feature was not launched as planned, with reports indicating that challenges arose due to the complexity of preparing necessary infrastructure for thousands of titles, as opposed to the limited selection available through Xbox Game Pass.
Moreover, it's worth mentioning that some publishers might choose to limit availability for certain games based on licensing agreements or existing contracts. In addition to these updates, Microsoft is also set to release a new Xbox wireless headset this month, featuring a higher price point than the current version. Known as the "Xbox Wireless Headset Refresh," this new model is anticipated to be made available in Europe on October 22 and in the U.S. on November 5, retailing for $109.99 / £99.99 / AU$163.56.
