Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Set to Launch on PS4 and Xbox One This September

Following a previous confirmation last year sparked by considerable demand from the community, fans can now mark their calendars for the official launch date.

This action-adventure title, which made its debut in April 2023, acts as a continuation of the story from 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Set five years post the events of its predecessor, players again take on the role of Cal Kestis, who has now matured into a skilled Jedi Knight battling the Empire.

The game successfully blends captivating storytelling with elements reminiscent of popular soulslike titles, earning positive feedback upon its initial launch. However, many players on older consoles expressed their frustration over the absence of a tailored version for their systems. Fortunately, Electronic Arts has confirmed that the game will release on PS4 and Xbox One on September 17 this year, much to the relief of fans.

Currently available for pre-order on both platforms, the game is priced at $49.99 / £44.99. Pre-ordering the new versions grants players exclusive digital rewards, including the ‘Hermit’ Cosmetic, the ‘Hermit’ Lightsaber Set, and the ‘Combustion’ Black Set upon the game's release.

There is genuine curiosity surrounding how well these versions will perform given their technical demands. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor boasts high-quality visuals and expansive, intricate environments, which have proven to challenge the capabilities of newer consoles, such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

Stig Asmussen, a former director at Respawn Entertainment, previously mentioned that the game fully leverages the features of modern hardware, ensuring significantly larger, detailed maps, and enhanced fidelity, which may not translate well to older systems.

The game’s launch on PC also faced struggles, with performance issues hampering the experience for many players. Although a series of patches have been released since then, some users still report difficulties achieving a consistent frame rate on their setups.

As Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has been available for over a year, considerable effort must have gone into adapting it for less powerful console hardware. Whether these adaptations will yield a satisfactory experience remains to be seen, and I look forward to exploring the game myself on September 17.
